Young digital talent in the spotlight

As temperatures heat up, summer season is nearly upon us. But before leaving the classroom behind, young talents at Econocom’s Apple Distinguished Schools did battle in a digital competition. On 7 June, the winners of the App Design & Swift Challenge were crowned at an awards ceremony, showcasing Econocom’s commitment to education and digital progress.

The venture began in 10 October 2022, when Econocom’s teams launched this innovative challenge in collaboration with the accredited schools. As part of 2022 Coding Week, the project enabled talented students to develop their skills in application design and programming. Entrants were asked to submit an app wireframe, designed on Keynote and prototyped on Swift Playgrounds, which addresses known issues, whether social or environmental.

The students rose to the challenge brilliantly with the help of seven training sessions throughout the seven months following the competition’s launch. Three accredited schools managed to see their project through to the end, and our panel of experts assessed the achievements of six groups in total.

Creativity and common good

Amongst the entries, some projects especially captured the jury’s attention. In third place, two second-year students from ENSCM presented the ECOsmĂ©tique app, offering an environmental and wallet-friendly solution for cosmetic products. The second-placed group, comprising four students from CollĂšge SacrĂ© Coeur in Halluin, designed the Learn Sports app, simplifying access to the rules of sports played at their school. But ultimately the team of five penultimate-year students from Saint-Joseph in Gap won the competition with Log’Eco. The innovative app encourages the use of ecofriendly materials when designing homes or cities.

The awards ceremony was an opportunity for the young talents to present their project in a ten-minute pitch to a prestigious jury. Its members included Econocom Vice-Chairman VĂ©ronique Di Benedetto and Education Team Leader ClĂ©mentine Bidart. Foxar co-founder and Chairman Louis Jeannin and VĂ©ronique Bolhuis, Head of Apple’s Teaching Code Programme, completed the panel of experts.

Digital for everyone

The event was marked by a speech by VĂ©ronique Di Benedetto, who stressed the importance of Econocom’s commitment to the project: « Being on the jury was the ultimate aim of Econocom’s commitment to this wonderful project: making students of different age classes aware of digital progress and what expertise can offer the world in technological, environmental and social matters. So we’re especially proud to have contributed to this initiative, which is an integral part of our corporate social responsibility. »

Jury member and Foxar Chairman Louis Jeannin also expressed his satisfaction with the competition: « The challenge helped the students realize that it’s possible to gain all sorts of skills online, which is essential today. »

Beyond the competition, the App Design & Swift Challenge was also an important opportunity for Econocom to reiterate its commitment to education and bring students essential tools for their professional future. The initiative builds on the company’s corporate social responsibility, which actively supports access to digital education for everyone.

The App Design & Swift Challenge demonstrates the vitality and potential of young digital talents, who will undoubtedly contribute to shaping a better technological, environmental and social world. Congratulations to all the entrants and winners for their ingenuity and success!
