One year after acquiring a majority share in SEMIC S.A., a global IT solutions and services supplier in Spain, the first anniversary is a good opportunity to look over the other side of the Pyrenees and take stock.
A company founded in 1982, Semic is a recognized IT solutions and services supplier in Spain. It offers its clients in both the public and private sector a wide range of solutions including IT equipment distribution and consultancy for launching IT infrastructures as well as outsourcing services. The business has vast industry expertise with particular know-how in the government services, health and education sectors.
As Semic CEO Oscar Lopez says, the company’s clients are 40% government services, 20% education stakeholders and 14% businesses in the health sector. Semic’s main projects, such as Aeticat, the management of 3,000 schools in Catalonia, have led to 70 people being incorporated into the group. Furthermore, as a responsible digital entrepreneur, pioneer of the digital circular economy, Semic has been a carbon-neutral business since 2021.
Semic’s CEO stresses the importance of teamwork, the responsibility of everyone involved in the company to pursue the integration within the Econocom Group, and the need to adapt fast to new changes. Oscar Lopez : « We’re now part of an international benchmark group with over 7 million technological assets and no debt and we’re continuing our integration: the process of change, restructuring and adaptation. It’s one of the challenges for this year. All of our teams are fully engaged, and if we keep going in that direction, success is guaranteed! »
After reiterating that the debt reduction target set three years ago has been met, Carlos Perez Herce, Country Manager for Spain, clarifies: « In Spain, we now have 21 offices and 1,500 employees. We’ve billed €353 M, i.e. a 20% increase, a figure similar to Semic’s growth, which means that we’re moving forward together and the synergies are there. » He concludes: « Semic was already a big business, Econocom too, but by adding our value, we became a major player in the Spanish IT sector. »./.
