How can we talk about our upcoming trip to Istanbul without mentioning the Blue Mosque? Econocom Stories is here to tell you more.
Istanbul, a multifaceted city, is home to an architectural jewel that captivates visitors from around the world: the Blue Mosque, also known as the Sultan Ahmet Camii in Turkish. Reigning majestically over the district of the same name, this iconic symbol was built by Sultan Ahmed I between 1609 and 1616.
Compared to the venerable Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque may seem more modest at first, although its imposing central dome stands 23 metres tall and reaches 43 metres across, creating breathtaking views.
Once inside, visitors are treated to a dazzling light show. The reasons for the âBlue Mosqueâ nickname become clear: over 20,000 blue tiles from the city of Iznik (Nicaea) delicately adorn the dome and upper part of the mosque. 200 stained-glass windows and hanging chandeliers give this sacred space a magical aura.
However, visiting the Blue Mosque means respecting traditions: suitable clothes must be worn and shoes taken off to enter this holy place. Women must also be sure to cover their shoulders and hair, with scarves provided at the entrance if necessary.
The Blue Mosque represents the epitome of art and spirituality, offering visitors an unforgettable experience marked by respect for culture and tradition. Its stunning architecture and sacred atmosphere make it unmissable during any stay in Istanbul and perhaps next May for our lucky winners !
